In this interesting interview with Vivek Wadhwa , the survey of 1200 high skilled immigrants from India and China found increasing number of immigrants are returning to their home countries. The typical age is 35 years and they lived in US between 5 and 10 years. 50000 have returned in the last 20 years and 100000 are expected to return in next 5 years.
Leaving is not anymore for family reasons but because of visa problems and good opportunities back home.
I find these excerpts interesting from the interview :
> The returnees use “LinkedIN” social networking to keep in touch with their US colleagues/friends.
> One million skilled immigrants waiting for Green Card in US. Out of 1 million , 350 – 400,000 of Indians are waiting for GC. Only 8400 get GC every year.
> Returnees hold and promote as managers when they return from US to India and China
> Returnees were sad that they are not getting anymore US level health care benefits in their home countries
> Indians feel their children’s education is better in India.
> Pollution, Corruption and traffic making some people return to US again.
> China welcomes returnees to middle management positions where as India cares less about returnees because of attitudes.
> Recession has least effect on returnees.
If one is planning to return to India or China then these excerpts gives a clue to evaluate.
