IPL (Indian Premier League) got moved to South Africa over security concerns as India is holding general elections in two weeks. SET Max is said to raise 400 crore from sponsors and ads. Worlds Sports Group will have all the international rights and SET Max together paid 911 crores for this mega event.
IPL’s nine fixed sponsors include Coca-Cola, Hyundai, Airtel Digital TV, Havell’s and Vodafone.
It has to be seen if the event hosted out of India will have same viewership as it had last year. The fast sell of ads for 2009 shows the increasing popularity of this short version of the game. The franchisees too lost big amount of money last year except a handful like SRK’s Calcutta team which made money selling franchise materials.
