Discarded by his own West Indies team, Chris Gayle yet again proved for Bangalore Royal Challengers as a ‘price catch’ with his blitzkrieg 49 of 26 balls along with young Virat Kohli’s swashbuckling knock 67 of 42 balls to help their team win an easy 26-run victory over Yuvraj-led new team Pune Warriors, here at the pink city (Jaipur) on Friday night.
Put into bat first, the duo gave flying start to their team score an
imposing 181 total on the board. In reply, the Pune Warriors fall
short of 26 runs, despite fighting fifty by Jessy Rider and 21-ball
quick fire 41 of 21-ball by its skipper Yuvraj. Ryder hit four fours
and two sixes while Yuvraj’s knock included two fours and three sixes. After Ryder’s dismissal, skipper Yuvraj Singh gave it his best shot and gave Bangalore a scare with some lusty blows.
He sashayed down the track and against Zaheer for a boundary and then, hooked Daniel Vettori over long-on for a six. Yuvraj’s best came when he smashed Syed Mohammad for two massive sixes and a boundary to give his team a glimmer of hope.
Earlier, Kohli smashed four boundaries and as many sixes during his
stay at the crease while Gayle found the ropes three times and cleared it the same number of times.
With this loss, Pune figure in the rock bottom of table along with
Delhi Daredevils with two wins and five losses from seven matches,
while Bangalore is cruising well in the tournament with initial
hiccups have now four wins from eight games to their credit.
