Sehwag Demolish Deccan Chargers IPL Play Off Hopes

It was one of the finest innings that none could display in the history of IPL. The hurricane knock of Delhi Daredevil’s skipper Virendra Sehwag (119 in 56 balls – 13×4, 6×6) is believed to be the best knock so far in T-20 matches. Single handedly, Sehwag destroyed whatever little hopes that the host Deccan Chargers had after putting up a huge 176 total on the score-board, after being put into bat on losing the toss.

Of course, Sehwag might have survived not once, but twice – once while on 56 and the second at 64, but the way he electrified the capacity Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket stadium in Hyderabad, is amazing and enthralling. Majority of the crowd, who came to cheer their home team break the jinx of losing on home turf, expected bowlers to restrict. As a matter fact, the Deccan Chargers bowlers, especially the speedsters, Steyn and Ishant Sharma, bowled their opening spells magnificently, restricting their rivals reeling 34 for three in the first seven overs.

Sehwag, who started his innings cautiously, did not bother his team losing the wickets at the other end. He took the initiative to take the fight into rival’s camp, when Deccan Chargers skipper Kumara Sangakara made the second change bringing in spinner Amith Mishra. Runs hungry Sehwag hit the first two balls of Mishra hard to clear ropes and then drove two excellent boundaries, Apart from this, he also struck the rest two balls scoring two and 1 runs. He raced to his 100 within no time and helped his team closer to victory. However, he was brilliantly caught behind wicket off a Steyn`s beauty in his second spell. But, by this time, Delhi Daredevils were moved closer to victory at 153 for four, needing 22 runs in as many balls.

Earlier, Duminy finally came good with a slice of luck as his smashing 55 helped Deccan Chargers post a challenging 175 for five against Delhi Daredevils in what was a must-win game for both. It was Duminy’s power-hitting that saw Chargers score a whopping 108 runs in the last 10 overs after scoring 67 in the first 10.

With this win, Delhi got eight points on board and keeps their hopes alive in the hunt for Play-offs. On the other hand, its curtains for Chargers who looked favourites till Sehwag struck like a tornado. Believe it or not, It was one of the most scintillating innings that one would have ever witnessed as Sehwag took it upon himself to accomplish what looked like Mission Impossible after Daredevils were reduced to 25 for three.
