IPL 2009 Schedule & Match Start Times
DFL IPL (Indian Premier League) 2009 is back with a small change of venue from India to South Africa as Indian government cannot provide security because of general elections. Elections in India forced change in IPL schedule/venue, Itinerary is slightly tweaked due to polls. The IPL 2009 Twenty20 competition starts April 18 and lasts 35 days until May 24. Each team will play the other 7 teams home and away, the top four teams at the end of the group stages will go through to the semi finals and then the finals.

South Africa's historic Perth test match Video & News
Why are newspapers and cricketing world blowing trumpets on South Africa winning first test match against Australia? It is because South Africa who had dominated the rest of cricketing world but failed consistently against Australia right from 1999 world cup semi final. This win is a long due in RSA account.
Besides RSA and Australia thing here are few other match specifics.
1) It is second highest run chase of 414 in Test history in second innings by any team. West Indies recorded the highest run chase with 418 runs against Australia in 2003.

Anil Kumble retired from tests video
Third highest test wicket taker with 619 wickets says good bye to cricket after playing 132 test matches on the eve of third test match between Autralia and India - November 2' 2008. He played 20 matches took "111" wickets against Australia with 10 wickets in an innings twice. When playing in India he is the king he took overall 350 wickets and away his stats are 269 wickets.

Neo Sports a cricket channel is too famous for glamorizing violence in its cricket ads have started airing the crushed toe ads for the upcoming India vs Australia 2008 October/November Test series :

The previous ad of India vs Australia series was much better with humor added to it. I feel to my heart that such ad "Hum Honge Kamyab" (we will Overcome Some Day) is what India needs during these troubled terrorist attacks and not something that brings back the bloodbath witnessed in recent incidents.

Is India vs Pakistan 2009 series confirmed ? Says Yes !! Pakistan Daily Times
Pakistan will be hosting one three-day match, three Test matches, five one-day matches and one Twenty20 international. The tour will be between January 4 and February 24. This will be India's eighth tour of Pakistan.
As ICC tournament is postponed, this series is good for host Pakistan as the last test match they played is in 2007 series when India hosted the series. In 2006 when India visited Pakistan, Pakistan surrendered badly in ODIs with Dhoni, Youvraj, Sreesanth leading the rout. However India lost test match by a margin of 341 runs.
The arch rivals clash is always an interesting one but with fragile Pakistan team the encounters have become one sided matches. Hope Pakistan will have reversal of fortune in 2009 series.
If Pakistan is hosting then Zee Sports America will telecast this series in North America.

2008 October Australia series dubbed more important than playing against Pakistan
Tendulkar started the obvious fire by saying India vs Australia series much bigger than playing against arch rivals Pakistan.
Is that statement true ? I feel so it is just Pakistan does not have that fire in it any more as a team as it used to be is the conclusion I drew from Sachin's claim. Of course Australia with its bad boys behavior feeding the fuel to the fire in recent years under the leadership of Ponting (that's another long post in coming days)
Pakistan's lost glory
Even though betting and huge crowds are witnessed in any match against Pakistan, recently (from 2001) Pakistan has lost its flare to fight back. The yester year players - Imran Khan, Miandad, Wasim Akram, Abdul Quadir made sure they fought until their last breath (Figuratively). The less recent team of Saed Anwar, Amir Sohail, Inzamam, Izaz Ahmad kept the momentum going on and made sure they gave their best when playing against India.
A match between India and Pak used to be a war like atmosphere with sweet, rude and un gentlemanly behaviors on and off the ground.

Tendulkar himself will not forget lifting the Quadir for sixers. Pakistanis unwelcoming crowd kindled then 16 years old Sachin with placards saying “Doodh Pitha Bhachcha ..ghar jaake dhoodh pee”, (kid, go home and drink milk), Sachin took then young leg spinner Mustaq Ahmed for a ride sending two sixes in one over. The frustaded guru of Mustaq Abdul Qadir challenged Sachin saying ” Bachchon ko kyon mar rahe ho? Hamein bhi maar dikhao` (`Why are you hitting kids? Try and hit me.`). Quadir. I hope Qyadir did not sleep that night with his over stats 6, 0, 4, 6, 6, 6. That was back in 1989.

That was the last incident of 1996 I can recall other than Twenty20 close final. Compared to 90s matches with Pakistan it is matches with Aussies in 2000s that gets more interesting. Why Tendulkar ? Haha he has to complete is record of 77 runs to surpass Lara.

Australian team announced its 15 member squad that will play test matches in India vs Australia 2008 October, November series.
Andrew Symmonds is out of test series ( Good news for fragile test team of India ) . He missed the team meeting and training session for a fishing expedition that irked the selectors and dropped him altogether from the series. The bad boy of cricket needs some break and his recent performances right from IPL Deccan chargers to recent Bangladesh series is a dismal mark in his cricket career. May be the days of his cricket are numbered. Got to see if Shane watson can fill his gap for mighty Kangaaroos.

Collingwood run-out appeal video of Elliot & controversy details
When New Zealand required 26 off 39 balls, All-rounder "Grant Elliott" was knocked over by the bowler "Ryan Sidebottom". Elliot was given run out when England appealed.
It clearly angered Elliott and the team New Zealand too. Umpire - Mark Benson did the right thing offered England and Collingwood the chance to withdraw the appeal. Paul Collingwood and neither his players seems bothered and Elliott was given out. He walked out with "what's that" looks at England players that questioned the gentleman game Cricket.
Collingwood should have withdrawn the appeal for the sanctity of the game. True sportsman ship is lost when the England team appealed for Elliot's run out.
Anyway, the justice is served with New Zealand winning the match from the last over.
Also Colllingwood made history with the four match suspension for being captain of England for bowling too slow in ODi#4

KP mastered the shot and creating trend that I believe will change the game of cricket. If every one can play this kind of shot I doubt it.What is a Switch-Hit ? Kevin Pietersen will be allowed to carry on playing his extraordinary 'reverse slog-sweep' after MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club), cricket's rule-makers, announced they would not be outlawing the 'switch-hit'.
"MCC believes that the 'switch-hit' stroke is exciting for the game of cricket," said a statement issued by MCC following a meeting at it's Lord's headquarters in London on Tuesday.
"Indeed, the stroke conforms to the Laws of Cricket and will not be legislated against."

This is good news for Canadian Cricket as reported by this news that they can now get more funds because of this recognition. More than funds the recognition puts cricket on radar in sports map for Canada.
This recognition benefits the Canadian cricket two-fold -- funding as well as psychological barrier.
Canada which has one of largest subcontinent immigrants and Cricket used to be the most popular sport until early 20th century and Ice Hockey replaced it later.

The Honourable Helena Guergis, Secretary of State (Foreign Affairs and International Trade) (Sport) and Member of Parliament (Simcoe-Grey), made the announcement at the Canadian Cricket Association's office in Toronto's Sport Alliance Centre. The Association Canadian cricket team uniform was unveiled, and the appointment of a team captain was announced.
"The Government of Canada welcomes Cricket Canada to the list of sports that are eligible to receive Government of Canada funding," said Secretary of State Guergis. "We are proud of the association's achievements and we look forward to supporting future initiatives."

Its Yahoo now joining the cricket live streaming market niche besides willow.tv and cricinfo.com. Watching matches on TV Channels may not be a big deal for cricket popular nations like subcontinent, UK and Australia but for North America it always has been struggle for the cricket fans to find the TV channels or live streaming options for each series.
Willow.TV has been popular and consistent in live streaming serving for so many years probably from year 2000 as far as I know. Limitation - Willow.tv only works on a PC and Internet Explorer only. Chicago cricket players banned for playing in other leagues
Promising Chicago cricketers - Abhijit Joshi (student of Waubonsie Valley High School, Aurora, IL) and five others are banned by Midwest Cricket Conference for playing in other leagues. According to DreamCricket - MCC announced that any player turning out for any other league would be punished. Abhijit Joshi who made a name and played in recent league with his back to back centuries in Guyana is the reason for the ban.
Other banned five cricketers are part of United Cricket Club. As cricket lovers these players keeps themselves busy in plying in multiple leagues in Chicago region.
Because of this ban promising players like Abhijit Joshi who put USA team on world cricket map will miss the huge chance to play with seniors as part of MCC for Chicago. The issue at hand "Playing in multiple leagues" in Chicago has got required attention now such that American Cricket Associations ( United States of America Cricket Association (USACA) ) work on to resolve such issues and give life to USA cricket and to young players like Abhijit.

Are you ready for another IPL look alike league tournament ? Cricket fans will have another Twnety20 league coming up.
IPL success led to creation of new league - Cricket Champions League (CCL). The parties involved in this league are England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Cricket Australia , the Board for the Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) and Cricket South Africa.
The structure looks very similar to IPL with eight teams and winners get a huge reward of £2.5m. Winners from each board like IPL winners Rajasthan Royals and the runners up Chennai superkings are already part of eight teams of CCL. From Australia cricket - Western Australia and Victoria teams, From South africa - the Titans and KwaZulu Natal Dolphins. ECB twenty 20 winners are yet to be decided.
Venues will be either India or Middle East. My guess is it would be india where stadiums were full for IPL thus getting ticket revenues would be easy for this new league.

Match#2 Chennai vs Punjab Highlights video
What made Chennai win the game ? Hussey's quick runs in last overs ? I feel its super kings captaincy, the sheer application of simpe captaicy principals from Dhoni - he rotated his bowlers reay well in the peak of thegame. Ofcourse Badri and Hussey added 3 runs a ball in last 25 balls (75 runs) and that added required pressureto Yuvi's team. The game was neck to neck when Sangakkara and Yuvi was hitting short balls from JoginderSharma. Great resistance from Kings XI and match was much more intersting than yesterdays Bangalore vs.Kolkata's quick finisher.

Match#1 Bangalore vs Kolkata video Highlights
The first opening match is a big disappointment to host team Bangalore - Royal Challengers. Praveen Kumar's excellent spell is nulled by Zaheer Khan's poor performance made McCullam hit all around the ground. The first IPL hundred and a terrific quick 158 out of 222 is all the differnce by the opener in the opening IPL match. Though Ganguly seems not a right partner, Brendon's hardhitting on a bouncy pitch continued the firework innings to the end. When Praveen Kumar was bowling good line and length, Dravid should have continued little longer with him -- This I feel is the turning point of the game.

Looking for all TV channels that are broadcasting Indian Premier League (IPL) inaugural series from April'18, Here is grand list of all continents/countries and the respective TV channels. Dish Network
Call Dish Network (USA) and tell customer service that you want cricket - IPL channel. It is reported that event ID for IPL is 96591 and its cost is $59. Ask them the channel number as looks like the numbers are 455 and 471.
ATN TV channel has the broadcast rights of IPL in Canada for five years. ATN will be telecasting Indian Premier League (IPL) matches live on Commonwealth
Broadcasting Network (CBN) and the matches will be re-telecast on ATN- Cricket Plus. CBN and ATN- Cricket Plus are two sports channels that ATN operates in Canada.
This time its not our popular Sky Sports but it is Setanta Sports channel and value is £15.00 a month
SetMax bought the rights for next five years to broadcast all IPL matches in India.
Network 10 (Channel 10) has bought the rights to show every IPL game live in Australia on free-to-air television for the next five years.

Chanderpaul final-ball six video - Sl vs WI 2008
This last ball six by Chandrapaul reminds me of Javed Miandad hitting six of a full toss ball from Chetan Sharma in Sharjah. As experienced bowler of Sri lanka - why did he bowl a full toss to a man who already hit a boundary in the previous ball.Jayawardene at deep midwicket action at one time made it look like he has it safely until the ball cleared the rope.

Quick preview of 2nd test match
SA made a clean bowling sweep making India loose 10 wickets for mere 76 runs and finally innings-and-90-run victory. Bhajji feels it is not just pitch which is red caused that paltry first innings score though Indan captain had a differnt view. If pitch is greener then Kumble who won the toss should have opten for bowling rather than batting on a seamers pitch. Dale Steyn who is star in the first innings with five wicket claim believes India didnt have any game strategy once they start losing wickets. Except for Ganguly who put some resistance in 2nd innings, all the paper stars who raked in big money in IPL made India lose the test match.
Third test match preview
The biggies Waseem Jaffer, Dravid, Dhoni & VVS Laxman back to back failures will add trouble in 3nd test match at Kanpur. Only hope is changes made to squad - Ishant and Munaf are called back into the team to stress the importance of bowlers. Kumble injury puts Powar as replacement. Bajji and spinners have to do their extra best to tie the test series. Overall I feel with second test win it is difficult for India to recover from the loss in 3rd test.

Sehwag is the star of first match with blazing triple century knock. He missed the great opportunity of beating Lara's record, he should have been bit patient as it is difficult to amass such runs again. Its great accomplishment for a player who is struggling for form and the man made it to record books with quick 300 off 270 balls. First test that ended in draw demonstrated what a batting pitch scores look like. Dravid joined the premier 10,000 runs club and the 25th test hundred. The credit is also to be given to RSA batsman who frustrated the easily frustrated Sreesanth with back to back boundaries from Smith's bat. Bowlers on two sides struggled to contain both runs and wickets.
Second test match preview
The middle order - Tendulkar, Ganguly & VVS Laxman failing will add trouble in 2nd test match at Ahmedabad. Bajji's five wicket haul is impressive and if he gets support from other bowlers India can be a better bowling side. The worrying factor for India is injured Tendulkar who is going to miss the second test. Kaif will be replacing Tendulkar after almost two years. Kaif who had been performing well in domestic matches is a right selection both in fielding and batting departments. Historically we have seen Sehwag cool down after a big knock like the one at first test match and this is advantageous to RSA.

2nd final of CB Series at Brisbane starts in -
Tendulkar shoulders batting responsibility in 1st final of CB series.Critics call him "match looser" & Indian captain makes a post match comment that he is a "records man". In spite of all these the little man shouldered the 1st finals win responsibility when Indian top order is at its worse form. For Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, this is a mission nicely accomplished in his 20 long year cricket career.This win gives mental edge over Aussies in 2nd final. Aussies in my opinion resorted to all tactics to take Tendlya out of the ground even throwing full length balls on his face but he contained his innings. The world champions, Australia is struggling both on bowling and batting fronts that too on their home ground as witnessed in CB series so far.
Both India and Sri Lanka were not able to bank that "out of form" Australia team opportunity so far except that India was able to do it in 1st final. First talk about Aussies bowling, Brett Lee & Johnson are only notable ones with occasional help from Symmonds. As I noted in my previous post after the departure of McGrath and Warne, Aussies are in the process of look out for bowling successors. Batting wise Top order is totally inconsistent with Gilchrist coming off to a ground with heavy crowd cheering and leaving at a blink of eye to pavilion before crowd notices. Hayden & Symmonds throwing their wickets with reckless shots. Ponting searching for his batting form and is meticulously studied by teams for his wicket.
India on the other hand mainly depended on batting of Gautum Gambhir & Dhoni's patience in all of CB series. Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma was performing averagely in all the matches. Uthappa is the one man who needs some domestic cricket before he sets foot on international team again. We have too much of expectations from Yuvi and he did won one crucial match for India. All credit goes to India's bowling new finds Ishant and Praveen Kumar. Pathan except for the 1st final contributed consistently both with his bat and the ball. Haribhajan keeps pressure on Aussies team just by his sheer presence in the team.

Tendulkar wins final for India with his maiden odi century in Australia
Sydney crowd thanks the Master Blaster.
Sachin scored all around the ground to keep Aussies fielding busy. The coordination of Sharma and Tendlya is a winning partnership. Sachin seen appreciating Sharma for his so perfect text book shots and for Rohit of age 21, this must be a great compliment from master blaster. In this series it is first time that India crossed or touched 50 for first wicket. 6+4 = 10dulkar is waiting for long time to give India this blasting innings and what a occasion to finish his first hundred in Australia that too at Sydney Cricket Ground ...err...Sachin Cricket Ground.
It is good to see India team maturing into a good bowling side with Praveen Kumar and Ishant leading the way.

Haribhajan takes weed and monkey comments revenge with the ball in 1st final CB Series
Sydney and Haribhajan have always controversies to offer , First final at Sydney is no different in this regard. Bhajji took both the wickets of Hayden as well as Symmonds. 
Hayden and Symmonds saved Australia from shameful score of 24 for 3. Symmonds and the Haribhajan calling him "Monkey" issue led to bitter fights in Sydney test match. Hayden recently last week talking on radio referred Bhajji as "obnoxious weed" and it resulted in emotional tensions on the ground as witnessed today.When Haribhajan came to bowl there are lots of boos around the ground. Under pressure Bhajji took the well deserved revenge by taking both Hayden as well as Symmonds wicket in 1st final of CB series. Bhajji celebrated the two wickets in "Bhalle Bhalle !" Bhangra style. Yuvi and Bhajji did a short display of boxing skills to Sydney crowd after Hayden got out.

Bhajji suffocated Hayden by not giving him any chance to score runs and Hayden fell for this trap and as natural as for the batsmen to play reckless shots.This is exactly what Bhajji masterminded in taking out Hayden at Syndey 1st Final today. The credit for Hayden's wicket is also to be given to Chawla who took an excellent running catch of Hayden. Overall Hayden played great final innings for Aussies, without Hayden score Aussies would have been in deep trouble.

India is better team than Sri Lanka in this series but not when compared with Australia. India just won one game against Australia in CB series i.e. 4th Match at Melbourne played on Feb 10, 2008 by 5 wickets. This makes Australia the defacto favorites in the 1st final game that will be played on March 2' 2008 at Sydney. India just won one game against Australia in CB series i.e. 4th Match at Melbourne played on Feb 10, 2008 by 5 wickets. This makes Australia the defacto favorites in the 1st final game that will be played on March 2' 2008 at Sydney. India lost to Australia in a close match by 18 runs. Had they won this match against Aussies their place in finals would have confirmed. This match with Sri Lanka will be knock out match if they loose to Sri Lanka. Tendulkar form has been of big concern for India. Openers in general are falling for meagre score. Sreesanth is loosing traction and giving away runs at will which is destroying the game and as well putting the pressure on other bowlers.

As India wins the 8th game against Sri Lanka in a two wicket thriller , that makes this next game between Australia and Sri Lanka interesting.
If SriLanka looses the match then India will have some what bright chances of going into the finals.

India keeps chances of getting into finals alive by winning this crucial match against Sri Lanka in a thriller. Dhoni and Yuvraj clinched this thriller in a style. Dhoni scored no boundaries in runs of 50 he made.

Zee Sports live cricket series schedule for year 2008
Zee Sports started telecasting sports channel in year 2007 with India Pakistan series. $19.99 per month seems to be a good deal only caveat is that Zee Sports will not telecast all matches and looks like they have obtained rights for all matches played in India.

Personally I would prefer month to month subscription to this channel instead of going for a year subscription as many year subscribers are repenting for the months and months of long gaps in India playing matches.

Three weeks after the controversy erupted, the racism charge against Harbhajan Singh was found to be not proven by Justice John Hansen, hearing the appeal, on Tuesday.
